Sultanabad Carpets : In the province of Farahan is found the city of Arak, formerly known as Sultanabad, with 500,000 citizens it is built on the ruins of a small town called Daskerah. Modern Arak, which means good land, is a relatively new city with fertile soil. In the city is the fortress Soltan Abad, whose wall is 7 metres thick. The carpets woven in the city and surrounding villages are identical to the Sarouk carpets, but the quality, colors and designs are intended primarily for the U.S. market. The Sultanabad rugs and carpets are very sturdy due to their very tight weave and the fact that they are woven with a double weft. Their wool is of excellent quality. The colors used are red, pink, beige and dark blue as a background. Their designs consist mainly of medallions surrounded by plain colored surfaces. Also full, dense and fine designs are woven, with curvilinear flowers like in the Kirman carpets.
Sarouk Carpets : Sarouk is the name of carpets with a rich history, which are woven in the homonymous town as well as in the city of Arak and surrounding areas. Names of carpets from the Sarouk area are also: Feraghan, Feraghan Sarouk, Mahal, Mohajaran Sarouk, Mushkabad and Viss / Golpayegan. The first successes of Sarouk carpets were largely due to the U.S. market. The Sarouk still continue to be popular among Persian carpets and are made of very good quality wool. The designs are usually floral in style, in ivory beige and in shades of red and blue. The best Sarouk originate from the small town Ghiassabad.
Classic Carpets: Carpets that are woven in urban centres in fixed workshops and looms(as opposed to nomads). Their designs are first done on paper by carpet designers. These designs are strictly conducted by the weaver during the manufacturing. Even in these carpets, though there may be slight variations in weaving.
All CarpetU2 carpets are subject to cleaning with high quality antibacterial and moth protection products according to Persian law.
Horizontal or vertical shading in the carpet pile: The shading is due to folding the carpet during transportation. When the carpet is laid and stepped-on they will vanish. Examples
Abrash: Due to the different amount of grease in the wool and the added salt during the process of dyeing, the wool has got a varying colour absorbance. This is not very visible before weaving. During the weaving though, lines of the same colour are formed in the carpet. This is called Abrash (which in Farsi means little cloud) and it shows that the wool was not manufactured using chemical means and marks the naturalness and authenticity of the carpets. Examples
